Joint GR/GC No. 31 of CEDAW and No. 18 of the CRC on Harmful Practices
This joint General Recommendation/General Comment from CEDAW and CRC discuss the elimination of harmful practices affecting women and children, primarily girls. In particular, the joint General Recommendation/General Comment:
- Defines harmful practices as persistent practices and behaviors that are grounded on discrimination based on sex, gender, age and other grounds, as well as multiple and/or intersecting forms of discrimination;
- Condemns the practice of female genital mutilation and both child and forced marriage.
